Lyford Rustic is our range of practical and beautifully made timber goods - from engraved platter boards, timber rings, bird houses to rustic kitchen and barware. Each piece is crafted from New Zealand timber and finished to last.
Lyford Rustic takes its name from a remote alpine village high in the Southern Alps - log cabins, native bush, and mountains that have never been in a hurry. It's the same spirit behind everything we make: honest, hand-finished timber goods, crafted right here in Canterbury by the same hands behind Imperial Shell Works.
Each piece is shaped from a mix of native and locally sourced timbers - totara, matai, rewarewa, rimu, tawa and mountain beech among the natives, alongside macrocarpa, pine, Lawson's cypress, London plane and jarrah. Chosen for grain and character rather than a fixed spec sheet, no two boards are ever quite the same.
Stories from the Village
A few of our pieces carry more than good timber - they carry a bit of Mt Lyford folklore. Our Whisky Sharing Set, for instance, is engraved for Cloudy Range Spirits - a (fictional) distillery on a (very real-sounding) street in the village. It's a small thing, but it turns a gift into a bit of a story worth telling over a dram.
(Glassware and metal fittings are sourced in; the timber work is all done in-house.)
